Time for Tea (& cake)

Wednesday, 28 June 2017

On a cold, windy, rainy Wednesday afternoon I couldn't think of anything nicer than driving to the nearest tearooms and warming up with a cuppa and a slice of cake; so that's exactly what I did.

After not seeing my lovely friend Faye for far too long, we bundled ourselves up in the car (readily packed with a brolly) and made our way to The Olde Young Teahouse in Middlesbrough. I've been drooling over their cakes on Instagram for as long as I can remember, never finding the chance to actually visit .. until now!
All I can say is - it was WELL worth the wait.

The tearooms have the nicest retro/vintage vibes, the loveliest staff and the most amazing array of tea and cake you could ever wish for. It's also very well priced for the quality of what they offer, which is perfect for a student like me (although I would happily pay a pretty penny for a good slice of cake like this one)!
I obviously opted for coffee and a slice of their caramel Tunnocks chocolate cake, which was - hands down - the best slice of cake I've ever eaten. Faye had the same, paired with a cherry green tea.

We are already planning our next trip for afternoon tea, and knowing our love for all things sweet, this will probably end up being a very frequent thing. I can't wait one bit!

The First One: A Walk on the Coast

Friday, 16 June 2017

So here it is. My first ever blog post!

I've been planning to start a blog for blummin' ages, but just never got round to it. So here I am, ready to focus on something other than the works of Descartes, Weber, Marx ... etcetera, etcetera (at least until uni comes back around anyway!)

My first post obviously had to encompass the beauty of the town that I am so lucky to call my home ... or close enough anyway, Saltburn-by-the-Sea. I have worked in Saltburn most of my teenage years and spent many a weekend paddling in the sea or eating my body weight in chip shop chips and ice-cream (a MUST). Last week my family and I brought my dog for a walk on a particularly sunny night and got to experience the beach at its best, pretty much totally empty. It was definitely one of the nicest ways I could have wished to spend a summer evening before traveling back to York for work, and you can probably see from these pictures why I appreciate my hometown so much.

My blog will quite possibly follow a bit of a 'what I did on my summer holiday' theme, for a while anyway at least. Mainly because I want to create something that I can look back on and see how, and what, I've spent my time off doing. After that, who knows! So if food, countrysides and pretty towns are your thing then feel free to follow along with my rambly postings. (Being honest I don't know how to follow on blogger so you might have to work that out for yourself!)
Let me know what you have planned for the summer ... and if you have any ideas of what I can do with the massive amount of free time I have off, that would also be much appreciated!

About betsyels

Thursday, 1 June 2017

Well, hello there! I'm Beth, a 20-year-old Philosophy, Ethics and Religion undergrad, currently studying in the beautiful city of York. I'm originally from a small town in the North East of England which has definitely fuelled my sense of wanderlust, although I do have a huge love for my hometown, which will undoubtedly play a key role in the makings of this blog.

I love to create, and betsyels was established as a place in which I could share some of my favourite places, people, and things. The content of my blog has no restrictions as of yet - so expect to see a lot of recommendations for coffee / cake, pretty cities, and beaches!

I hope you follow me on this little adventure.
